Last September 30 saw part 2 of the 2017 CAGI Test Fest unfold at the Ayala-owned Arca South land (formerly FTI) in Taguig City.

Organized by the Car Awards Group, Inc. (CAGI), the said event featured another set of 10 cars that were taken for a spin by the organization’s roster of local motoring media people from radio, TV, print, and online.

As always, the objective is to assess each vehicle’s customer satisfaction in terms of comfort, convenience, and performance, among others. All these, in turn, would help find the next Car, Truck, and the first ever Motorcycle of the Year Philippines winners.

The 2017 CAGI Test Fest part 2 was participated by such car brands as BAIC, MINI, Haima, and Hyundai. Each brand brought out 2 or more of their respective models that include;

  • BAIC - H5 Bayanihan commercial vehicle, Freedom (Single and Double Cab) commercial vehicles
  • MINI – Countryman D and Countryman SD compact hatchbacks
  • Haima – M3 Flagship compact sedan, F Star Double Cab commercial vehicle, F Star minivan
  • Hyundai – H350 van, Grand Starex Super Express van

Each vehicle was subjected to CAGI’s 2-fold testing procedure; the Qualitative and Quantitative.

The Qualitative testing is carried out via a couple of laps around a special test course designed by CAGI within Arca South. The test course has tight and wide corners, straights, and a short slalom section. Within the 2-lap time period, each car is observed in terms of driving comfort, riding behaviour, and agility. This is also the opportunity for the test drivers to assess the vehicles’ tech goodies, convenience features, and fit and finish.

The Quantitative testing, on the other hand, is done on a straight road within the test course. It gets extra technical as each vehicle is fitted with data gathering devices to assess acceleration, braking, and power delivery by the numbers.

Overseeing the Qualitative and Quantitative testing is CAGI long-time partners Carmudi Philippines and KPGM RG Manabat & Co., a renowned auditing firm. The latter’s role is to ensure the fairness and cleanliness of each testing procedure’s scoring system.

The 3rd and final part of the 2017 CAGI Test Fest for the Car and Truck of the Year titles will be on October 28. But prior to that, things will reach a new level as the first ever CAGI Motorcycle of the Year Test Fest will be held on October 14 and again on October 21. Stay tuned for more updates.
