2018 Mazda CX-3 Receives a Host of Upgrades, Including G-Vectoring Control

The Mazda CX-3 has always been considered as one of the more fun-to-drive offerings in the subcompact SUV class. Based on the equally feisty Mazda2, the little crossover offers hot hatch driving feel with a bit of SUV practicality in terms of space and all-weather capability. Now, Mazda thinks it’s time for a refresh.

But unlike most carmakers who will simply give their offering a nip-and-tuck, Mazda begs to differ by endowing the CX-3 with a few pieces of kit that are aimed at improving safety and driving pleasure. The most notable safety feature comes in the form of Smart City Brake Support. This piece of kit automatically applies the brakes in emergency situations at speeds of up to 30kph.

Apart from this, the Mazda CX-3 can still be ordered with a host of other safety features to help keep drivers and pedestrians out of harm’s way. These include Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Smart Braking for Highway, and High Beam Control, just to name a few.

Being a Mazda, the updates’ piece de resistance is the Japanese carmaker’s vaunted G-Vectoring Control. Seen on the other Mazda models, G-Vectoring Control uses the engine together with the throttle and steering to give more direct steering feel and response. It gives the driver more confidence behind the tiller.

Besides this, Mazda has put in place thicker sound insulation in strategic places to help reduce cabin noise levels. Moreover, revised suspension bushings, front lower control arms, and dampers are all designed to help improve upon the already dynamic chassis.

The updated 2018 Mazda CX-3 will first be sold in the North American market. We can expect other markets, including ours, to follow suit.
