The 2017 season of the Formula 4 Southeast Asia (F4 SEA) Championship took its competitors to the 4.2 km Clark International Speedway (CIS) for its 2nd event in the calendar. Among the top racers present were the Grimes brothers Ben and Sam, who were the Philippines’ representatives in the said Petron Corporation-sponsored international racing series.

Ben Grimes, who recently capped off a successful season debut under the Pinnacle Motorsport racing team at the 2017 Formula Masters Series led the charge, clinching valuable podium finishes in the event’s 6 races. As regard, he took home 1st in Races 1 and 5, keeping the pressure on against his closest rival Daniel Cao of China.

He, however, suffered a DNF (Did Not Finish) in Race 2 as a result of a crash. But that didn’t hamper his spirit as he took home 2nd in Races 3, and 4. He also secured 3rd place in Race 6, an intense final race which was prematurely stopped due to harsh track conditions.

Ben’s younger brother Sam, on the other hand, was seen giving it with everything he got, but luck didn’t quite favor his side at the time. He was hounded with DNFs in Races 1, 3, and 4. Despite those setbacks, he reaped his much-deserved points in Races 2, 5, and 6 by finishing 2nd, 3rd, and 8th places, respectively.

Regardless of the results, however, Ben and Sam still proved that the Philippines can indeed compete with the rest of the world in auto racing. A lot more is to be seen from these 2 Pinoy racers, and they’ll be sure to rise up in flying colors in the season’s upcoming events.
