Around a month or so ago, Volvo Philippines  announced that it would be bringing in the second-generation XC60 premium compact SUV before the year ends. It even gave a select few the opportunity to see the vehicle in the metal.

During that brief preview, Volvo officials revealed that the Philippine distributor would be rolling out the new model with all the cool safety tech that has gone into making the XC60 one of the safest CUVs on the road. While the list may be a bit too long to mention, one very apt description is that the new XC60 can steer itself out of harm’s way.

Thanks to three new safety systems, the Volvo XC60 automatically steers itself to avoid a potential collision. The brand’s vaunted City Safety, which first saw daylight in the previous XC60, gets a tweak in the form of steering support. At speeds between 50-100kph, the vehicle will automatically apply steering input when braking is not adequate to help avoid an obstacle, pedestrian, or animal.

Then there is the Blind Spot Information System that also features steering support This one prevents drivers from changing lanes and steers them back in their own lane when a vehicle is detected in their blind spot (in the next lane).

And one of the newest innovations is Oncoming Lane Mitigation.. This unique system detects when the vehicle strays onto the opposite lane and steers it back when a car approaches. This helps prevent those fatal head-on collisions.

Apart from these steering support systems, the new Volvo XC60 will also have a host of other driver-assist functions. These are aimed at reaching the Volvo vision of minimal or zero accidents.

The new Volvo XC60 will be available in the country before the year ends.
