BYD is fast making a name for itself as a maker of clean, “new energy” vehicles. In 2015 alone, it accounted for 11% of the world’s new energy vehicle sales, as well as seeing a 130% rise in global sales of its products in the first half of 2016.

To further boost its presence, the Chinese automotive giant has tapped Academy award-winning actor and United Nations Messenger of Peace Leonardo DiCaprio, to become its brand ambassador. The vehicle firm and DiCaprio share the same vision of making the planet a cleaner and greener place to live in.

BYD, for instance, is committed to “Cool the Earth by 1 degree Celsius”. The campaign involves creating a Zero Emissions Energy Ecosystem, wherein cars and other vehicles emit low or even zero toxic gases. DiCaprio, on the other hand, set up the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation in 1998. The foundation, which is “dedicated to the long-term health and well-being of earth’s inhabitants”, teams up with various companies and organizations to meet its goals.

Together, both BYD and Leonardo DiCaprio will work hand in hand to highlight the latest technologies and developments in the field clean energy vehicles. They will strive towards making a clean earth a reality.
