Chevrolet Puts a Bit of Ruggedness Into the Spark with the Spark Activ

We’ve seen quite a number of subcompacts transform into crossovers. The Ford Fiesta has spawned the EcoSport while Mazda has the CX-3 as the raised all-weather version of its Mazda 2 sedan and hatch twins.  Now, Chevrolet is all set to field a more rugged iteration of its Spark minicar, the Spark Activ.

This one has a higher ride height, increased by 10mm, for more versatile trekking. The Spark Activ also gets a revised front grille, a new front fascia, contrasting molding and cladding, as well as roof rails for that rugged SUV stance. The inside also receives a few updates in the form of a rearview camera, the Chevy MyLink infotainment system with a 7-inch display, the OnStar Guidance package, 4G/LTE WIFI hotspot capability, and a host of comfort features.

The Chevrolet Spark Activ will be powered by a 1.4-liter engine mated to either a manual or automatic gearbox. It promises peppy performance combined with exceptional fuel economy.

Set to go on sale in the first quarter of 2017, the Chevrolet Spark Activ is for those folks that want the ruggedness of an SUV yet aren’t too fond of the bulk. It is also for the first-time car buyer looking for a bit of versatility in what is essentially an econobox on wheels. This one is still an econocar—a taller one, that is.
