Last February, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) presented the first locally assembled Mirage G4 to President Rodrigo Duterte. This signaled the Japanese carmaker’s entry into the government’s Comprehensive Automotive Resurgence Strategy or CARS program. Five months later, MMPC shifts into high gear as it adds yet another model to its CARS bid.
MMPC officials announced that the brand’s hot-selling Mirage hatchback will soon be put together at its assembly plant in Santa Rosa, Laguna. MMPC used to import the mini compact hatch from Thailand up until now. Local production will be able to provide more jobs and help boost local parts suppliers. The Mirage hatchback itself has around 255 locally sourced parts.
MMPC, which has been producing its products local for some 50 years now, took the opportunity to welcome its new President and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mutsuhiro Oshikiri. The ceremony, held at the Solaire Resort in Paranaque City, witnessed Mr. Yoshiaki Kato turn over the reigns to his successor.
Mr Kato, who has been MMPC President and CEO since March 2015, will hold his post until July 31, 2017. Mr Oshikiri will take over on August 1st. Besides these, MMPC reported its 10th consecutive sales growth last year, pegging sales at a record 61,400 units.
