Porsche’s Dual Personality: The New Panamera 4 E-Hybrid and 911 GT3 Cup

Porsche is a very multifaceted car company. On the one side, you’ve got fast and fun sports cars like the iconic 911 that is practically the heritage of the brand summed up in one model. Then there is the more sensible aspect, like the Cayenne, that combines the marque’s well-loved traits with the practically of a family car. Yet somehow, when it all comes together, it still works beautifully.

So it didn’t come as a surprise to many when Porsche introduced two seemingly different cars at this year’s Paris Motor Show—the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid and the 911 GT3 Cup.  On one side of the spectrum is the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, which is essentially the brand’s very own racer. Under the rear engine cover is a 4.0-liter flat-six with variable intake and exhaust technology that produces a healthy 485hp.

Thanks to an aerodynamic package and that awesome motor, the car exhibits some truly stunning performance figures. It’s no wonder some 3,031 copies have been made since it first hit the racing scene in 1996—making it the most popular cup car.

Porsche, being the responsible car company that it is, has likewise introduced the newest member of the vaunted Panamera family, the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid. The notable thing about this four-door sports car is that is combines a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 with a clean electric motor. The former puts out 330hp and 450Nm while the latter develops 136 horses and 400Nm of torque. These sum up to 462hp and a rousing 700Nm, which is enough to rocket the car from rest to 100kph in 4.6 ticks and hit a 278kph top speed while still being to do 40km/L. Think of it as the 911 marrying its 918 hybrid cousin. Or something like that.

Moreover, this car can do 50kms on pure electric mode. We’re talking about an all-wheel drive sports, mind you. And that’s essentially the beauty of this automotive company. You get pretty much the best of both worlds. You’ve got the future, today.
