For four decades now, the BMW 7 Series has been offering customers a fine mix of style, comfort, luxury and of course, driving pleasure. Yes, it is hard to believe that this car, considered a technological showcase by many, has been around since 1977. Now, it marks its 40th birthday with the special BMW 7 Series Edition 40 Jahre .

Just like previous Edition Jahre models like the 40th anniversary 3 Series and its sporty 30 Jahre M3 brother, the 7 Series Edition 40 Jahre features exclusive touches that make this particular variant truly special. The colors, for instance, consist of shades from BMW Individual. Thse come in either Frozen Silver Metallic or Petrol Mica Metallic. The latter hue is a shade of blue that brings out the true luster of the color and the lines of the car.

Just like the outside, the luxurious cabin is done is exclusive color combinations of either Smoked White/Cobiba, or Smoked White/Black. These even boast hand woven piping done in Smoked White for that truly exquisite touch. All four Comfort seats (front and back) are complemented by the Smoked White Alcantara headliner, Eucalyptus or High Gloss accent strips, and Edition signet on places like the headrests and the like.

Of course, the BMW 7 Series Edition 40 Jahre still features  some of the most advanced comfort, luxury, and driver-assistance system in the class. The driver is assisted by aids that make the car an almost fully autonomous vehicle, depending on the driving situation. Then there is the carbon core chassis that makes the 7er truly light (despite all the tech thrown in) and sturdy. And yes, each customer can spec his 7 Series to suit his personal taste and keep him connected to the outside world while on the move.

This has always been the essence of the BMW 7 Series since time immemorial (or 1977, at least).  It was the first car to feature Check Control back in its first iteration. It was likewise the first German luxury car to pack a 12-cylinder motor back in 1987, as well as having an internal navigation system in 1994. And who can forget the first-generation iDrive?

These are just some of the reasons why BMW is celebrating 40 glorious years with the 7 Series Edition 40 Jahre. The BMW 7 Series Edition 40 Jahre will debut at this year\s Frankfurt International Motor Show. Only 200 examples will be built.
