For the Executive That Dares to be Different: The 2018 Chevrolet Malibu

While demand for the midsize sedan isn’t is high as it was some 20 years, ago, the market still has quite a slew of offerings to choose from. There are the usual suspects such as the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. The sporty set usually go for the Mazda6,or Subaru Legacy. Then there are the Hyundai Sonata and Peugeot 508.

Yet those who have really done their homework will know that there are lesser known offerings such as the Chevorlet Malibu. First seen in 2014 under the revitalized leadership of The Covenant Car Company Inc, the Malibu now gets a new look and some really high tech features for 2018.

But what does the 2018 Chevy midsize sedan have over the likes of the Honda and Toyota? For one, it’s got loads of tech. The 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder motor under the hood is one example. Don’t let the rather paltry displacement fool you as this mill puts out 250hp and 353Nm of torque—numbers clearly meant for larger displacement motors. Thank turbocharging for this.

Then there are goodies like inductive phone charging that keeps your precious mobile device toped up while on the move. There are also a host of first-in-segment features such as adaptive cruise control, semi-autonomous parallel and perpendicular parking assistant, as well as safety and driver assist systems like forward collision alert, lane keep and lane departure warning, pedestrian detection, forward emergency braking, blind zone alert, and rear-cross traffic alert, just to name a few.

Apart from this, occupants will get stuff like a 9-speaker Bose audio system, a panoramic sunroof, remote engine start, and an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen display with MyLink interface. This being a midsize offering, leather and acres of legroom are part of the mix.

Beyond the tech, those old enough will know that this car is full of heritage. First unveiled in 1964, it began its life during the thick of the American muscle car era. Pretty soon, it settled down and grew up to become a well-mannered sedan for suburban families. Now on its latest iteration, Chevrolet Philippines-TCCCI fields it as a vehicle for those that want to convey an image of power. It’s for the executive class that want a refined ride. It’s for the person that dares to be different from the crowd. And with all the tech thrown in, their mobile lifestyle won’t be a problem.

The Chevrolet Malibu is priced at P2,131,888.
