Round 14 of the MotoGP World Championship heated up the Spanish community of Aragon during the Gran Premio de Aragon. The exciting race saw Marc Maqquez of the Repsol Honda Team take the pole position to claim his fourth victory of the season.

Marquez’s win, however, wasn’t a walk in the park. On the contrary, a mistake during the opening laps relegated him to fifth place. Thanks to some quick moves and sheer strategy, the Spaniard was able to regain the lead during the twelth lap. He went on to take the lead until lap 22. Speaking of strategy, his use of Michelin Power Slick hard compound rubber also helped his cause, giving him the needed traction all throughout the race.

Following in his wake, a battle for second and third ensued between Movistar Yamaha MotoGP’s Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi. The former’s runner-up position was challenged, especially with five laps remaining. Fortunately for Lorenzo, he was able to hold on until the chequered flag.

As for Marquez, his Aragon clincher was his 28th win of his prestigious premier class career. It was even sweeter as he was credited with a 1:48.694 minute lap time during the 15th lap—the fastest of the race. Thanks to his latest podium finish, Marc Marquez is now 14 points ahead of Lorenzo and 52 units clear of Rossi. This, with only four more races left in the 2016 season.

The next round will be at the Japanese Grand Prix in Montegi on October 14-16.
