There is this notion that motorcycle riders are some of the most dangerous road users today. True enough, a great number of them ride with reckless abandon, putting themselves, as well as other road users in harm’s way. Yet not every two-wheeled rider is a menace, says the Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association (MDPPA). In fact, it is doing all it can to ensure that this isn’t just a mere perception but a reality.

One of the ways it does this is by educating no less than the youth, specifically third grade students of Lourdes School of Mandaluyong. MDPPA’s road safety seminar series, which is now on its fourth leg, aims to impart road safety knowledge to the young. This makes perfect sense, the organization says, as these youngsters will be the road users of tomorrow.

By teaching the children about proper road usage, wearing helmets when riding a motorbike, and other useful info about keeping safe whether driving or as a pedestrian, MDPPA hopes that the young ones will likewise spread to word to their parents and other household members. This is turn will help make more Filipinos aware about proper road safety.

The Lourdes School of Mandaluyong leg is a follow up to the seminars conducted in San Beda of Alabang in 2014 and again in 2016, and FEU Quezon City in 2015. And with MDPPA’s thrust, which also includes the vaunted Helmets Save Lives campaign, we can look forward to safer roads for all.
