Two Cool Mazda MX-5 Concepts for SEMA: the Speedster Evolution and RF Kuro

Since the Mazda MX-5, aka Miata, came out in 1989, we have seen more than a number of modified examples. A lot of these are done by tuners who just love the car so much, they just had to add more oomph and personality to it. In the spirit of making an already good car even better, Mazda North American Operations puts forward two concepts that will make any gearhead salivate: the Mazda MX-5 Speedster Evolution and MX-5 RF Kuro.

Set to debut at this year’s Specialty Equipment Marketing Association (SEMA) show this November, the MX-5 Speedster Evolution is, as the name suggests, a further improvment of the previous MX-5 Speedster that broke cover at last year’s SEMA show. The new one is finished in White Ether and shaves around 100lbs off the weight of its predecessor. In fact, Mazda says it weighs roughly 350lbs less than the already featherweight stock MX-5.

The Mazda MX-5 RF Kuro, on the other hand, is what Mazda envisions the soon-to-be-launched Retractable Fastback if it had goodies like 17x7.5 forged alloy wheels, 215/45R17 tires, and was painted in a special in-house shade called Kuro, which is Japanese for charcoal. The cool RF Kuro concept also features the BFGoodrich Battery Tender Global Mazda MX-5 Cup car’s adjustable suspension. It’s the stuff that automotive dreams are made of.

Get to see the Mazda MX-5 Speedster Evolution and MX-5 RF Kuro Concepts at the 2016 SEMA show this November 1-4, 2016 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Nevada.
