To those following the local motorsports scene over the past two years, you will have familiarized yourselves with the Giti Formula V1 Challenge. Sure, you know that it’s organized by Tuason Racing, and that it’s the historic return of single seat racing in the Philippines, and that it’s now considered as the highest form of motorsport available in the country today.

But did you know that the Formula V1 racecar itself can go toe-to-toe with some of the fastest supercars around the 4.2 km long Clark International Speedway (CIS) in Pampanga? And did you know that in the hands of a skilled driver, the machine can tackle CIS with an average speed in excess of 200 km/h and an average lap time of 2 minutes and eleven seconds

These are just a couple of tech facts not many know about the V1 racing machine, and these are some of the things experienced first-hand by a grid full of brave racers who took part in the recently concluded Giti Formula V1Level Up Challenge, a weekend of fun, excitement, and testing of how fast can the V1 machine really go and how committed the participants are to push the machine to its limits.

Aside from its go-factor on the track, the real main highlight of the V1 race machine is its truly analog nature, with no driver aids, that puts the emphasis on individual skill–and this raw driving feel is what a trio of stars experienced firsthand in the first ever Giti-Formula V1 Level Up Challenge!

With P50,000 to be donated to their charity of choice on the line, TV host Jinno Rufino, actress and presenter Phoemela Baranda, and radio personality Sam YG took to CIS to see who would be the fastest in the Formula V1.

Being Vios Cup veterans, the trio would be following the path of drivers in the one-make series who have also leveled up into the highest form of Philippine racing. To guide them, current Formula V1 racers Dominic Roque and Gaby Dela Merced served as coaches: Dominic for Jinno and Phoem, while Gaby paired up with Sam.

To share this experience and tons of “did you know” moments to a wider audience, Tuason racing has partnered with ESPN 5 to document the Level Up Challenge. Case in point, the said media network will air the first of many episodes of a miniseries called “Giti Formula V1 Level Up Challenge”, with its Episode 1 ready to roll today, September 20, at exactly 6:00 pm.
