Porsche Macan: State-of-the-art Assembly Technology for a World-Class SUV

Since it was unveiled some two years ago, the Porsche Macan has become one of the brand’s best-selling models. Last year, for instance, around 80, 216 examples were sold. And why not? It’s practically an entry into the German luxury sports car marque for those that want to experience it yet need that bit of practicality.

Just like any Porsche, the Macan also undergoes a state-of-the-art production process at the Leipzig plant in Germany—the same facility where the other top sellers like the Cayenne and Panamera, are born. It’s an important nameplate as Porsche invested 500 million euros from 2011 to 2013, as well as adding some 1,500 employees to its workforce.

Apart from these, the expansion also consisted of a new body shop and paint facility. Beyond production, the Leipzig plant is home to Porsche enthusiasts who want to experience the brand. Some 47,000 people visited the factory last year, either to try out the racing circuit, collect their new Porsche, or to participate in advanced driving courses or other events. There is even an off-road course where drivers can subject vehicles like the Macan and Cayenne to the test—which they pass with flying colors, of course.

From the body shop to the final step in the assembly process, the Porsche Leipzig factory is truly a state-of-the-art place. It garnered recognition from the prestigious J.D. Power stody for Best Production facility. And it is gearing up for the future with IT systems and intelligent technologies. And as Porsche moves into the future with its automobiles, so does the manner in which these are put together.
