Last September 22, the buzzling establishment that is the Bonifacio High Street in BGC Taguig, played host to the 2018 Subaru Palm Challenge Philippine Face-Off. Organized by Motor Image Pilipinas, Inc. (MIPI), the exclusive distributor of Subaru vehicles in the country, the said event went down in style as it yielded 10 new lucky contenders to represent the Philippines in the finals to be held in Singapore.

In brief, the Subaru Palm Challenge is where participants would place their right palm on a Subaru for as long as they can. It’s a test of mental and physical strength as each contestant must endure the heat of the sun, torrential rain, and fatigue.

The clock went rolling at exactly 9:00 a.m. for the over 100 challengers who turned up. Also on the spotlight for them to hold on to were 4 units of the latest Subaru XV with EyeSight. As hours went by, the team dwindled down one by one. To keep the intensity up high, various challenging tasks were presented, including standing on one leg for a period of time.

The challenge lasted about nine and a half hours. When all things were said and done, 10 people emerged as the victors. They were; Rey Balintucas (09:30:24), Juntie Flores (09:27:29), Filmark Bernante (09:26:15), Carlo Talahib (09:26:06), John Kris Ilagan (09:25:39), Alec Karol Ebuen (09:23:07), Mark Albert Guballa (09:22:06), Daniel Sabas (09:21:40), Karl Joseph Sarenas (09:21:21), and Angel Lou Grospe (09:21:01).

These 10 challengers endured it all, and have reaped rewards. But most importantly, though, they’ve earned the privilege to be sent all the way to Singapore to represent the Philippines in the finals on October 26 to 31, 2018. That said, they’ll be going up against national teams such as Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, and Singapore (the host country). Up for grabs are tons of prizes, including a brand new Subaru Impreza.

Congratulations and good luck, team, Philippines!
