ASEAN NCAP Assures That the Mitsubishi Xpander is One Safe MPV

Those folks following the motoring beat will most likely be aware that Mitsubishi is Motors Philippines Corporation about to launch a new MPV, the Xpander. While it does flaunt a stylish face and flanks, smart car buyers may be a bit concerned about how it will fare should it encounter an unfortunate mishap. Well, the ASEAN New Car Assessment Program assures us that it will do just fine.

The safety organization recently awarded Mitsu’s upcoming cross multi-purpose vehicle with an overall four star safety rating. What this essentially means is that passengers will be well protected should they figure in an accident.

The ASEAN NCAP gave the Xpander 14.22 out of 16 points for for front impact adult protection, while side impact adult protection garnered 13.92 out of 16 points. When it comes to child safety, front impact child protection netted an 8 out of 10. Side impact child protection, meanwhile, scored a perfect 8 out of 8 points.

Overall, the Mitsubishi Xpander got a five star safety rating in adult occupant protection, four stars in child occupant protection, and another foru stars for safety assists. And this is what gave the MPV a still favorable four star average—it doesn’t come with driver aids like blind spot monitors, lane departure warning, or the like. It likewise doesn’t feature side airbags.

Despite these omissions, which are considered plus points for new car safety, Mitsubishi did throw in stuf like Stability control and the requisite ABS.  Still, it would have been nice to have some added peace of mind with the aforementioned additional safety gear.
