Get to Know 70 Years of Porsche Via Special Exhibit in Berlin

To many folks, the Porsche brand is often synonymous with the 911. That’s not a bad thing as the sporty two-door is what made the brand what it is today. Yet Porsche is more than just this innovative rear-engined sports car, as the world will get to witness at the 70 Years of the Porsche Sports Car exhibit that opened yesterday, March 20, 2018 in Berlin.

It begins with the Porsche 356-001, the very first Porsche to be given an operating license on June 8, 1948. Exhibit visitors will get to see Porsche’s past  right next to its future—the Mission E—that is set side by side to showcase just how far the brand has come. Apart from these two, however, visitors can expect so much more from the tour—just as they can from the brand.

It’s all about the Spirit of Innovation, says Porsche. This is what the marque is all about, with a pioneering drive that has been present since day one (or model 001, we should say). One way of showing this is by exhibiting the one millionth 911, an Irish Green example that rolled off the assembly line in May 2017. It simply shows how much the world loves this seemingly unconventional sports car.

Then there is the Sports Cars Reinvented section that tells of the entrepreneurial spirit as seen via the likes of the Boxster—a car that practically saved Porsche from going under back in the 1990s. After this, one will likewise get to see the Diversity of the Sports Car—the many facets of the icon, as well as the marque itself. The Pink Pig—the legendary Porsche 917/20 race car graces the Motorsport section. This one earned the nickname thanks to its livery.

A walk through the exhibition halls would not be complete without passing through Sports Cars Today where one will get to see the Panera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo, a sports car disguised as a swoopy and sexy “wagon”. Moreover, it is powered by an innovative hybrid drive system—a precursor to the upcoming all-electric Mission E that will see daylight in 2019.

Finally, Sports Cars Around the World and 70 Years of Passion celebrate how customers around the world emulate the brand, along with the engineers and pioneers that have made this innovative spirit possible, respectively.

The exhibit, which runs until May 31, 2018 when the Drive Volkswagen Forum takes place, is only the beginning. Porsche will be holding a slew of events to celebrate this auspicious time in the brand’s life. All this to mark how one bold step taken back in 1948 changed the face of the sports car segment forever.
