Hyundai’s official Philippine distributor, Hyundai Asia Resources Inc (HARI) has been reporting steady sales growth over the past months. So it comes as no surprise that the Korean carmaker returned increased turnaround for the year that was. The good news is that this reflected a double-digit sales growth for 2017.

HARI reported a 12% rise in sales with 37,678 units sold in 2017, vis-à-vis the 33,695 vehicles rolled out during the previous year. A large chunk of this was made up of Passenger Cars. This segment sold 25,529 units, up by 7%. And as expected, the Hyundai Accent grabbed the largest slice of the sales pie, with 16,454 units sold in 2017. That’s a whopping 33% jump over the 12,360 Accents delivered in 2016.

The Commercial Vehicle segment, on the other hand, saw 12,149 units leave Hyundai showrooms in 2017. That’s a rousing 23% increase over the 9,888 units for the previous year. The crowd favorites in this class were the Grand Starex, with a 15% jump in sales at 4,295 units sold in 2017, along with the Hyundai Tucson, which returned 12% more sales, pegged at 3,649 examples sold in 2017.

With the Philippine economy expected to grow at a steady pace in 2018, HARI foresees continuous growth in the years to come.
