For many a purist, putting the words Ferrari and hybrid in a single sentence is considered a sacrilege. How can a supercar be equal of something akin to a golf cart? Well, apparently, it can, as seen in the newly-revealed Ferrari SF90 Stradale hypercar.

The new model is not just a new offering from the Prancing Horse. It is the very first series production plug-in hybrid to come out of the Maranello stable. While there is a LaFerrari, which itself is a hybrid, the SF90 Stradale has plug-in capabilities that likewise allow it to drive in ure electric mode for up to 25km and a top speed of 135kph.

The drivetrain is a technological tour de force what with a 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 that produces 780hp and 800Nm of torque—the most potent V8 from the supercar maker. This is complmented by three electric motors placed at the front and rear of the car that gives out an additional 220hp. All  told, these make for a total system output of 1,000hp, blasting the car from rest to 100kph in just 2.5 seconds, 0-200kph in 6.7 ticks, and hitting a 340kph top speed.

With power being sent to all four wheels via 8-speed dual clutch transmission, drivers can select between four driving modes that allow for maximum power or efficient, pure electric motoring. The gas-electric setup itself is derived from Formula 1, which utilizes the Motor Generator Unit Kinetic (MGUK) This means you can be efficient in one mode or maximize both power sources for maximum performance.

Yes, Ferrari is now entering a new era with the SF90 Stradale. And it seems that this is only the beginning.
