You may know by now that the Mitsubishi Xpander is one of the newest 7-seat crossover MPVs in the market. You may also have learned that the first batch of this new Mitsu recently arrived at the Batangas Port, ready to be delivered to eager customers soon.

But what many people may be asking now is just how fuel efficient is the new Xpander? To answer this burning question, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation joined a fuel economy run organized and supervised by the Automobile Association of the Philippines. Under the watchful eye of Mr. Francisco F. Reyes Jr., the Xpander was pitted against four other vehicles competing in the same class.

Running a distance of 236.58kms, through the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) and Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX), the six vehicles were subjected to the Fuel Economy Run procedures of the Department of Energy.

And the results?

The two Mitsubishi Xpander units—the GLX MT and GLS Sport AT---topped the heap with a fuel consumption of 21.01km/L and 22.94km/L, respectively.

These results show the superiority of the 1.5-liter four-cylinder motor with MIVEC variable valve timing technology. Whether with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic, the Xpander returned stellar fuel economy numbers. And granted that these are ideal conditions, it just goes to show that the Mitsu MPV can hold its own and even top the field even in ordinary, everyday driving.  Situations.
