It was a test of stamina for both man and machine. We refer to the 8-hour Philippine Endurance Challenge race And for two straight years, Mazda’s little Mazda2 hatchback has been showing that it has what it takes to meet the challenge head-on. And come out with high marks to boot.
The car, which completed 160 laps and came out on top in the Manufacturer’s Class of last year’s tilt once again showed its strong form. This year, in the 8 Oras ng Pilipinas race, it ran an even more grueling 163 laps and finished in 6th place.
What’s even more amazing about the feat is that this Mazda2 hatch is bone stock. The engine, suspension, and most of the mechanical bits are the same pieces you’d find in units on the showroom floor. This means one can feel confident about running their car to the ground withut fear of major breakdowns. (Not that this is encouraged, of course)
