The Mazda2 Hatch Endures 8 Hours of Racing, Two Years in a Row

December 11, 2017

It was a test of stamina for both man and machine. We refer to the 8-hour Philippine Endurance Challenge race And for two straight years, Mazda’s little Mazda2 hatchback has been showing that it has what it takes to meet the challenge head-on. And come out with high marks to boot.

The car, which completed 160 laps and came out on top in the Manufacturer’s Class of last year’s tilt once again showed its strong form. This year, in the 8 Oras ng Pilipinas race, it ran an even more grueling 163 laps and finished in 6th place.

What’s even more amazing about the feat is that this Mazda2 hatch is bone stock. The engine, suspension, and most of the mechanical bits are the same pieces you’d find in units on the showroom floor. This means one can feel confident about running their car to the ground withut fear of major breakdowns. (Not that this is encouraged, of course)

The team that put the Mazda2 through its paces is the Automobile Association Philippines-Motorsport Development Program contingent.  Composed of graduates of the said program, namely, 2016 MSDP finalists Carlos Marzo, Andre delos Santos, Hazel Ramirez, Miguel Reyes, Armand Marcaida, and Polo Bautista (2015 top finalist), the team is part of an effort to teach youngsters aged 16-19 a thing or two about proper racing and discipline behind the wheel.

The said program shares the same vision of Mazda’s Philippine distributor, Bermaz Auto Philippines, that aims to bring out the most of car and driver.  And it does so this time in a safe environment such as the Clark International Speedway.

With this, Mazda once again proves that you can bring out the spirit of Zoom-zoom without worry.
