Mitsubishi will churn out more Xpander units to meet market demand

Around a year ago, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation introduced a new vehicle known as the Xpander. Not only was this small MPV a new offering for the Japanese carmaker but it likewise became one of the brand’s fastest selling models. In the Indonesian market alone, some 50,000 orders were placed from August of last year until June of this year.

Thanks to strong market demand not only in its Indonesian home market but across the ASEAN region, however, Mitsubishi now faces a problem—a happy problem if you will. The Xpander now has a long waiting period in various markets around the region. The solution? Increase production capacity, says Mitsu.

It hs thus ordered its Bekasi, Indonesia plant to step up production from the planned 100,000 units for fiscal year 2018 to as much as 120,000 vehicles. Furthermore, it will peg output at 150,000 beginning in 2019. This will help ensure that waiting times are cut and customers get their units much faster.

As you may recall, the Mitsubishi Xpander is a seven-seat MPV that combines minivan versatility with SUV-like ground clearance and capabilities. With its relatively affordable pricetag of less than P1M for the base variant and a little above P1M for the top-spec models, it’s no surprise why many folks, especially Filipinos, are drawn to it.

So if you’re one of those waiting in line for a unit, take heart as you might just get the keys to your new ride sooner than expected.
