While the world is generally crazy about Sport Utility Vehicles, some folks still have a soft spot for sports coupes. Whether hardtop or convertible, more than a few people still like the two-door sporty configuration. Case in point is the latest-generation Ford Mustang, which was the best-selling sports coupe for the third straight year.

According to data compiled by Ford through HIS Markit, new car registrations showed that Mustang units delivered for 2017 totaled 125, 809 units. The data also showed that 81,868 units of these were delivered in the United States alone. The rest are from export markets.

As for these export markets, China had the highest demand for the Pony Car, with 7,125 registrations last year. And whichever market it arrives in, the 5.0-liter V8 GT variant is still the one to have for most folks. Moreover, a lot of women seem to like the new Mustang—despite the stereotypical male being the usual buyer.

Yes, the world seems to be falling in love with the Mustang once again, says Ford.
