This Porsche 911 Turbo 993-generation pays tribute to the original by using genuine parts from Porsche Classic

It’s been twenty years since the 993-generation of the Porsche 911 ended series production. Yet even after all this time, the nameplate’s last air-cooled version continues to be a sought-after classic. Yes, it is a classic says Porsche Classic, which is why it decided to build a one-off example for charity.

Finished in Golden Yellow, the Porsche 911 Turbo Type 993 pays tribute to the original car by using no less than genuine components are parts sourced thru Porsche Classic. The bodysheel, for instance, has undergone corrosion protection to ensure that its new owner won’t have any rust issues with his pride and joy. Then there are the chassis components that use nothing but genuine bits.

Taking around one year and a half to put together, the Type 993 Classic features cues from the original car. The 911 Turbo features a new 3.6-liter flat-6 that produces 450hp—the same output back then. The same goes for the manual gearbox, all-wheel drive system, and hand-stamped chassis that all adhere to the exacting specification of series production. And yes, genuine parts were used to put these systems together.

So why the 993-generation, you ask? Apart from the aforementioned final run of the air-cooled motor, this 911 featured innovations that are now being used in today’s cars—twenty years on. Take for instance the aluminum chassis that cuts weight and improves overall performance. Or the use of the twin-turbo motor. These are things that many cars use today yet were considered cutting-edge at the time.  And the “new” car gets a few extras like black wheels with Golden Yellow accents, an interior done in the same color scheme, and side air intakes from the 911 Turbo S.

The Porsche 911 Turbo 993 will make its world debut at the Porsche Remsport Reunion on September 27 and will go on to be auctioned off by RM Sotheby on October 27, 2018. All proceeds will go to the Ferry Porsche Foundation.
