The automotive industry is abuzz with talk of a future that is autonomous, connected, and electrified. Almost all carmakers are developing systems that will make all these possible. And the latest to announce such initiatives is the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance.
Known as Alliance Ventures, the new team up will see all three companies investing a combined $1 billion to fund open innovation projects over the next five years. This will kick off with up to $200 million worth of capital poured into start-ups and tie-ups with tech companies during the first year alone.
The following years will see more ventures being put up in order to reach their goal of an autonomous, connected, and electrified future. At the end of the five year program, Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi hope to launch as many as 12 electrified vehicles.
Apart from these clean vehicles, the said cars and crossovers will also have self-driving capabilities. Aside from this, these cars will also be connected. All three core technologies aim to providce a safer, more stress-free drive that will help enhance owners\ lives.
Alliance Ventures will see a 40-40-20 percent partnership between Renault, Nissan, and Mitsubishi, respectively.
