In March of this year, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars came out with a truly unique line of cars under its Bespoke Collection. The said collection was a collaboration with some of Great Britain’s most influential rock and music icons, aptly named Wraith Inspired by British Music.
Each one was a reflection of a particular music icon or group, rendered in Rolls-Royce Wraith fashion. And two of these were done for and by the legendary The Who. After almost half a year, the cars have been sold and the proceeds have gone to worthy cause.
In the case of the two Wraith Inspired by The Who, the funds have been donated to the Teenage Cancer Trust, a charity that aims to help teenagers aged 17-24 who are afflicted with the Big C. The donation of 208,945 Euros was handed by Roger Daltrey CBE to Teenage Cancer Trust Chairman David Hoare. Daltrey, it must be noted, is Honorary Patron of the Trust
Roger Daltrey CBE commented, “Seven young people are diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK, and these vital funds will help Teenage Cancer Trust take a huge step towards its goal of providing specialist support to every young person with cancer in the UK. This car has become an incredible collectors’ item, and it’s gratifying to know that the proceeds of the sale will support such a worthy cause.”
The two Rolls-Royce Wraith are special not only because they were created as one-off models to celebrate The Who’s musical legacy, but also because of the unique details that went into each of these motor cars. The first one ,for instance, depicts some of the band’s most famous lyrics and its Bull’s Eye logo. Then there is the Tommy Car, which is a project with Mike McInnerney, who designed The Who’s 1969 album Tommy. This one contains a whole host of details, including the album cover.
The two Rolls-Royce Wraith Inspired by The Who, as well as the rest of the Inspired by British Music lineup, have been purchased by various Rolls-Royce owners and collectors.
