Volkswagen says that its largest market today is in China.  So it doesn’t come as a surprise that the German brand chooses to launch its flagship SUV here. Enter the third-generation Volkswagen Touareg.

Larger than its predecessor, the new VW SUV brings with it’s a host of tech that puts it at the leading edge of its segment. Underneath that sleek and stylish profile lie goodies like the new Innovision human machine interface. This one consists of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster placed side by side with a large 15-inch (yes, like your laptop) touchscreen display at the center of the dash.

Apart from its huge size, this number allows users to customize their Touareg much like they would their smartphone. One can practically program various functions like music, climate, vehicle settings, and driving style to suit one’s preference. And it’s all done via touchscreen or steering wheel-mounted controls.

At launch, the new Volkswagen Touareg will come with either a 231hp or 286hp diesel mill—both in V6 configuration.  There will likewise be a V6 gasoline version that produces 340hp or a V8 turbodiesel that puts out 421 horses. This being a VW, a 367hp plug-in hybrid will soon arrive in markets like China.

Apart from the new HMI, the Touareg also gets a host of cutting-edge safety and convenience tech. You get stuff like Night Vision that uses thermal imaging, Roadwork Lane Assist, Front Cross Traffic Assist, active all-wheel steering, and LED matrix headlamps, just to name a few. Volkswagen says that these systems won’t be intrusive and will simply work in the background to make your life easier.

Expect to see the new Volkswawagen Touareg hit the market within the year.
