The Toyota Prius has been sold in the local market for around a decade now. To mark this milestone, as well as signal the Japanese carmaker’s thrust to bring the Philippines into the electric mobility age, TMP recently held the Toyota Hybrid Electric Technology Conference.

With the theme Towards Sustainable Mobility, the two-day affair brought together industry officials, government leaders, the academe, and private business folks who discussed what Hybrid Electric Vehicle technology is, the issues that may hinder its coming into the country, as well as other things that may help make it a mainstream part of Filipino motoring.

Aside from the Prius, which is the brand’s very first mass-produced self-charging hybrid electric vehicle, TMP also sells the more compact Prius C. Both vehicles, while more of niche offerings at present, are poised to pave the way for a future that is geared towards sustainable motoring.

All this is in in line with Toyota Motor Corporation’s own Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050. This vision aims to eliminate the Japanese marque’s carbon footprint within the next three decades. TMP is one of the stakeholders that will help achieve this goal by doing its share, such as projects that raise awareness about green motoring and making it easier to acquire green vehicles.

In other words, we can expect to see more hybrid electric vehicles plying our roads real soon.
