As crossovers and Sport Utility Vehicles continue to rule the sales roost, carmakers like Volvo give consumers a bit of a break by offering crossover station wagons for a change. No, they’re not totally ditching the SUV but are, however, giving us offerings like the V60 Cross Country.

The 60-Series’ Cross Country version takes the new-generation V60 wagon and adds about 75mm of extra ground clearance, along with all-wheel drive and a new off-road mode. Apart from this, a few body enhancements are thrown in to give the wagon a more robust yet still sophisticated appearance.

Powering the Volvo V60 Cross Cuntry T5 is the marque’s 2.0-liter, 250hp inline-4 turbo mill. It will be joined later on by a mild and plug-in hybrid duo that is in line with the brand’s electrification strategy.

This being a Volvo, safety naturally comes standard. City Safety is at the forefront, as are cross traffic alert and Pilot Assist. The former wanrs occupants of oncoming traffic and even applies the brakes if needed. The latter, meanwhile, can take care of steering, braking, and accelerator input duties up to speeds of 129kph. It’s all in line with keeping everyone safe while on te move.

Volvo says that the new V60 Crosss Country will be sold as a 2020 model.
