Avid automotive enthusiasts who follow the numbers may be aware that Porsche has been enjoying increased sales over the past few months. With an upward trend since late 2016, the German sports car maker has just reported a new record for the year that just went by.

Porsche has revealed tht it sold a total of 246,000 vehicles in 2017. This figure translates to a 4% rise in sales vis-à-vis the same period in 2016. This growth can be attributed to the hot-selling Porsche Panamera, which accounted for roughly 28,000 units. A large chunk of this, by the way, was made up of hybrid variants.

Following the success of the Panamera is the Porsche 718. This model, made up of the 718 Cayman and 718 Boxster, saw 25,000 copies leave showrooms worldwide. But if you thought the 718 sold a lot, its bigger brother, the iconic 911, took home an even bigger slice of the pie, with 32,000 units sold last year.

But the large chunk of Porsche sales still went the Porsche Macan. Porsche’s compact crossover retained the top spot in terms of sales, thanks to roughly 97,000 examples being delivered to customers worldwide.

As for regional market share, China is still tops with 71,000 Porsches landing in the homes of Chinese customers. This is a 10% increase over sales in 2016.
