About a week ago, AF Payments, official seller of beep cards in the country, proudly announced that it has sold some 3 million of the tap-to-pay service cards since it first entered our shores in 2015. While this is truly a cause for celebration, AF Payments is doing more than just rejoicing; it is even beefing up the service to reach more customers.
Citylink, the point-to-point bus service, now adds the tap-to-pay convenience to its Newport City-Eastwood and vice-versa route. Riders may simply tap their cards to pay for their ride. To ensure that they pay the correct fare based on the distance travelled, they must do so twice—once upon boarding and another once they alight from the Citylink bus.
The new payment system gives riders the privilege of enjoying cashless transactions. This is especially helpful for those that regularly take the Citylink route each day. Equipped with Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) trackers, the location of each bus can easily be recorded, useful in determining at which station each passenger boarded and got off.
With around 1,500 riders taking the Citylink bus each day, the beep card service makes it truly convenient for customers to simply hop on and head out to their destination—cashlessly,. And with the bus operating from Mondays to Saturdays, with the earliest one leaving at 6am, those taking the C5 route are assured that they will arrive at their destination safely and in comfort. Of course, they need to at least have the minimum fare of P39 or more to avail of the service.
As for beep cards, the Citylink Newport City-Eastwood service is just one more way people can truly make the most of the tap-to-pay convenience it offers. Valid for four years, beep cards are readily available at any LRT or MRT station, as well as select partner establishments. One can top up at FamilyMart, Circle K, SM Bills Payment, Bayad Centers, as well as Villarica and Tambunting Pawnshops.
