It’s no secret that Ford was once known as a maker of gas-guzzling vehicles. Sure, offerings like the Mustang and Expedition has rumbling V8 motors. Yet these very same mills drank fuel like there was no tomorrow. Well, Ford wants to make sure that there is a tomorrow—a sustainable one—as it now sets forth its plans for a clean and green vehicle lineup.
Ford announced that it will be fielding a slew of vehicles that will run on either hybrid power or pure electricity. The said nameplates include a hybrid F-150 pickup that can not only tow and haul huge payloads, but likewise operate a mobile generator, an autonomous commercial vehicle that is both green and capable at the same time, two new police vehicles running on hybrid power, and a hybrid Transit van to be sold in Europe.
What really gets most car enthusiasts’ juices flowing, however, is the news about a new Mustang that will be motivated by hybrid propulsion. Before you get up in protest, do note that Ford promises V8-like power and torque—minus the guilt of a gas-sucking engine. Ford will also be introducing a new fully electric small SUV that will meet the needs of most buyers yet still be able to run up to 482kms, despite the lack of a regular gasoline motor.
With most of these vehicles set to be unveiled between 2019 to around 2021, Ford will likewise be upgrading its Flat Rock, Michigan plant to be able to build the said lineup, as well as upgrade its existing fleet. The move will also see the addition of 700 new jobs. To ensure the success of its plans, Ford will begin testing electric vehicles (EVs) in Europe and the U.S. later this year. It is a continuing evolution of all the years of experience it has gained in this field.
It looks like Ford will really be going further—this time, on clean energy
