It’s no secret that the automotive landscape is filled with Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) and crossovers. One need not read a sales report to know that this has long been the best-selling segment in the industry. Simply look around and go for a drive and you’ll know what we mean.
With its added weight and al-weather capabilities, SUVs require a tad more grip when it comes to tires. This is where Maxxis tires, leading maker of Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) and truck tires comes in. The brand puts forth its line of rubber that promises to provide the utmost grip, stability, and handling to handle most any driving condition motorists demand of it.
While all this sounds like marketing fluff, Maxxis put its money where its mouth is by joining forces with the National Association of Filipino Off-Roaders (NASFOR), and Phoenix Petroleum, to stage the Maxxis 4x4 Cup. The 12-leg challenge is an extreme off-road racing series that will test the driving skills of off-road aficionados across the archipelago. Naturally, the vehicles and their tires will likewise be put through their paces.
For 2017, the Maxxis NASFOR Extreme 4x4 Cup kicked things off last February 11 and 12 in Baler, Aurora. This was followed by an off-road race staged during the Araw ng Dabaw (Davao) over the weekend of March 18 and 19, 2017. From there, various venues across the country will host the extreme challenge—such as off-road courses in Carmona, Dipolog, Ormoc, Isabela, Kadayawan, Digos, Cagayan de Oro, Angeles, Sto Tomas in Batangas, and Cebu.
While the trails and off-road tacks may vary, each one is designed to showcase the extreme capabilities of Maxxis tires. Functional design technologies like stone ejectors within the tread pattern help give protection against debris and rocks, while large sidewall design ensures optimum grip even during extreme vehicle lean.
What all this essentially means is that each Maxxis tire is specifically designed to cope with most any road condition. Because if it can tackle tough off-road tracks with aplomb, imagine how much of a cinch the urban jungle would be?
The 2017 Maxxis NASFOR Extreme 4x4 Cup is powered by Phoenix Petroleum, RaceTech 4x4 Suspensions, 99 Off-Road House, AEG Powertools, in coordination with the various 4Wheelers Chapters.
