There’s no denying the timeless appeal of Lego.  To many folks, the colorful bricks from the Denmark-based toy company are more than just a kids plaything; they can actually be a labor of love. A work of art, even. Nowhere is this more true than with the newest car from Porsche—the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

The latest 911 GT3 RS is no ordinary Porsche. For one thing, it consists of 2,704 parts. And yes, these plastic parts aren’t your ordinary Lego bricks either. Sure, a lot of them are from previous Lego models. Yet around 10% of these pieces are new—exclusively for this GT3 RS. One such set are the rims that were designed together with Porsche. And even the plaque that bears the car’s serial number is laser engraved. It is fittingly the last piece of the puzzle—just like the original car’s

Then again, this Lego Porsche 911 GT3 RS wasn’t just some weekend project for some kicks on a boring Saturday night. It was a thorough collaboration between Porsche and Lego, where engineers and designers from both firms shuttled between Weissach and Billund between 2013 and 2015.

And when it was finally ready to be unveiled earlier this year, the result was simply breathtaking. Everything on the Lava Orange beauty, from the seam lines on the hood and roof, to the fender openings, air vents, and wings are there. It is 57cm of pure genius. Moreover, Lego wants the assembly process to be just as memorable. The various components come in separate boxes. And putting it together, Porsche and Lego promise, can be just as exciting as the real thing—including the marriage between engine and transmission.

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS by Lego Technic is one gem any car or toy nut should have in their collection.
