Partnerships between automakers and tech companies are nothing new. In fact, there is a growing trend towards collaboration between the two industries, especially with connected cars becoming the norm. Now, a new tie-up takes place between Volvo Car Company and Google.
The Swedish carmaker has tapped the technology firm’s vast software arsenal and equally diverse goldmine of apps, specifically Android operating system, to come up with future models that woud utilize these said apps for its infotainment and connectivity solutions.
The future models would use apps developed by Google, Volvo, or third-party developers that help keep owners connected to the outside world while in their car, connected to their car via remote, or both. Bo working closely with each other, Volvo and Google hope to come up with apps that would be more personalized and would cater to various needs.
These apps could aid in navigation, entertainment, or even allow drivers to work in their cars while on the move. And with safety being a top priority at Volvo, we can be sure that the automaker will do everything it can to ensure that drivers stay focused on the task of driving even while getting work done. Moreover, the connected car platform will bring us even closer to a world where cars talk to each other and thus, avoid unwanted road mishaps.
Expect the new Volvo-Google apps to be in Volvo models within the next two years.
