Whether we admit it or not, many of us tend to have a lot of clutter in our vehicles. Loose change, mobile phones sliding about in the center console, water bottles, take-out bags, and pretty much our whole lives stored in our own mobile closet. Volvo understands this and wants to put an end to such a global phenomenon with the upcoming XC40.
The new small crossover will feature a host of storage spaces and solutions that are set to bring order to people’s motoring lives. Volvo’s development team spent numerous man hours researching on motorists’ behavior and found that most folks tend to store their clutter in a similar way, no matter where they hail from.
This is why one will find such innovations as repositioned speakers to free up space. Instead of the traditional door-mounted speakers, Volvo will debut a dash-mounted air-ventilated subwoofer. This will allow owners to place laptops and more water bottles in the door pockets.
Then there are the credit or service card slots set along the dashboard. This helps eliminate the practice of fumbling to reach for their wallet when these items are needed. A small fold-away hook, meanwhile, has been added to the glovebox. This can be utilized to secure small take-out bags or the like.
Volvo has likewise placed a small area under the center console storage box for tissue paper. Yes, Kleenex can now be neatly placed there, as can waste be disposed of in a bin that can easily be removed to throw away its contents.
In true organized fashion, Volvo has designed the XC40 with a floor system that will put luggage in place. Speaking of cargo, the rear cargo area features fold-up dividers and hooks to secure grocery bags and other items. There are even luggage hooks to help load suitcases more easily, along with a secret compartment under the load floor to hide valuables from prying eyes.
With the new XC40, which is set to debut within the next few weeks, Volvo hopes to make clutter in one’s vehicle a thing of the past.
