Porsche has been known to set quite a number of records on tracks such as the grueling Nurburgring-Nordschleife. In fact, the 20.6km Green Hell has witnessed more than a few cars with  the Crest break a record or two—particularly for those that cover less than 7 minutes.

Well, Porsche has once again clocked an amazing run around the Ring with the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS. The 520hp sports car put in a 6:56.4 minute time with Porsche Works race car driver Kevin Estre at the wheel. The 29-year old Frenchman did his run at around 11:40 am amid 14 degree ambient and 18 degree track temperatures—ideal conditions, he notes.

The track-bred road car, the 911 GT3 RS, boasts of a 520hp, 4.0-liter naturally-aspirated motor that allows it to zip from rest to 100kph in just 3.2 seconds before hitting a 312kph top speed. Fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires, the 265/35ZR20 front and 325/30ZR21 rear rubber helped give the car optimum grip on the corners and straights. Plus, Estre’s vast experience around this track also added to the experience.

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS is the third road-legal Porsche to break the less than 7 minute record, after the 918 Spyder and 911 GT2 RS.
