Porsche has not hidden the fact that it will be launching its first all-electric sports car by the end of the decade. The Porsche Mission E, the German manufacturer says, will be the most sports-focused electric model in the business.
Yet as Porsche would have it, the Mission E isn’t the only electric vehicle that will give a bit of excitement to car nuts around the world. Porsche has likewise revealed that the FIA has recently accepted its application to become a Formula E manufacturer. What this means is that the Weissach-based carmaker can manufacturer can produce components that can be used to compete in the electric motor race.
Taking its cue from the successful Le Mans-winning Porsche 919 Hybrid, the stint in Formula E will utilize the latest and most cutting-edge technologies in electric mobility. While Formula E will provide each team with batteries and the chassis, the contingent will have the freedom to use its own electric motor, inverter, differential, transmission, brake-by-wire system, and suspension. This means it will be able to put in its own brand of electric technology.
Expect to see the Porsche Works team compete in Formula E at the start of the 2019 season.
