Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems are nothing new. Carmakers have been offering them as standard or optional equipment on certain models for quite some time now. These nifty devices warn drivers if a tire is underinflated or is losing air pressure.
While this device is great, it doesn’t exactly take the guesswork out of letting you know if you’ve filled your tires to the correct pressure. As many car enthusiasts know, driving within the recommended tire pressure will not only prolong your tires’ life but help save fuel as well.
Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. helps solve this problem by offering a feature called Easy-Fill Tire Alert system. It works by warning the driver if the correct tire pressure has been reached while inflating those tires at the service station.
To use it, one simply parks the vehicle on a secure, flat surface and places the transmission in Park (for AT gearboxes). The ignition must be left in the ON position with the engine switched off. Once air starts filling up the tires, the vehicle’s lights will start flashing to signal that the system is monitoring the procedure. The horn will honk to let the driver know that the correct tire pressure has been reached. Should the tire be overinflated, the horn will honk again and the hazard lights will flash three times.
It’s all part of Nissan’s Intelligent Mobility technology that helps keep motorists safe on the road. And in this case, may even save money while they’re at it. For now, however, this cool piece of kit is only available on Nissan vehicles sold in North America.
