It was in December of last year when Lamborghini took the wraps off its much-awaited Sport Utility Vehicle, the Urus. While it may have put off more than a few purists, there’s no denying that this number combines the essence of a Lambo hypercar with the much-loved traits of a versatile crossover.
More than six or so months after the launch, luxury lifestyle magazine Robb Report has recognized the Urus as a “consummate crossover”, naming it as its MPV SUV in its Best of the Best 2018 awards.
The folks at Robb Report are drawn to how the Italian hypercar maker has taken the best traits of the Aventador S and Huracan Performance and wrapped these in a svelte crossover body. Sure, the profile may be sleek and a bit low slung for an SUV. Yet the designers and engineers at Lamborghini have managed to put in just enough ground clearance and commanding ride height to give it road presence and more importantly, off-road capability.
Powered by a 4.0-liter twin turbo V8 that puts out 650hp and 850Nm of torque, the Urus can rocket from 0-100kph in 3.6 seconds, 0-200kph in 12.8 seconds, and max out at 305kph. Moreover, its 3.38kg/hp power-to-weight ratio ensures nimble handling and razor-sharp driving dynamics.
All told, you could say the Lamborghini Urus gives you the best of both worlds. The folks at Robb Report seem to think so too.
