We all know the Nissan Leaf to be one of the most technologically advanced cars on the road today. Not only is it a fully electric vehicle but the Japanese manufacturer has put in place cutting-edge systems that are pretty much way ahead of its time.
One of these systems is the battery pack. It not only allows the Leaf to travel long distances on a single charge but likewise enables this to be done in a clean and efficient manner. To prove just how powerful the batteries are, Nissan tied up with Eaton, BAM, The Mobility House, and the Johan Cruijff Arena in an unprecedented project that sees Nissan Leaf batteries being used to power an entire stadium.
Supported by the Amsterdam Climate and Energy Fund, the Johan Cruijff Arena utilizes a total of 148 Nissan Leaf battery packs. The power source consists of 85 new and 63 second-life packs that are used to meet the stadium’s various energy requirements. The 2.8MWh capacity is meant to make the electricity supply more stable and lessen the load on the power grid.
As if this isn’t sustainable enough, a total of 4,200 solar panels mounted on the roof help the Nissan Leaf’s battery packs. This combo has turned the stadium into a truly green facility. Moreover, it proves that if the batteries are good enough to power an entire arena, they should be more than up to the task of energizing the high-tech road car.
