The PB18 is what Audi thinks an electric sports car should be

Audi has long been talking about an electric future. Well, it now debuts its swoopy PB18 concept at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

From the outside, you see traces of the R8 along with a hot hatch and a sports car. The trapezoidal grille is complemented by a rakish windshield and flat roofline. The rear is done as a hatchback with LED taillights dominating things back there.

What’s interesting about the PB18’s design is the cabin that can be either a single- or two-seater. Being single-seater allows the driver to sit in the middle and view the windshield with augmented reality. This lets one view stuff like the racing line while on a racetrack. Slide the steering wheel and controls to the left and you can accommodate another passenger to come along for the ride.

The ride is powered by three electric motors—one for the front axle and a pair for the rear. The front motor puts out 201hp while the rear pair produce 604hp. Total system output is rated at 671hp and 830Nm of torque. This allows the PB18 to rocket from rest to the century mark in just (are you ready for this?) 2 seconds!

Since it’s an all-electric vehicle, Audi put in a 95kw/h battery that pegs driving range at 500kms on a single charge. Topping up can be done via traditional wires that can do the job in 15 minutes or thru wireless induction.

An Audi electric sports car that promises to bring the thrill back in the drive. Sound too good to be true? Well, it probably is as this is merely a show car, a concept that gives us a peek of what could be in store in the years to come.
