We’ve heard of privacy glass—a feature on high-end models that dims out the rear quarters with dark tint. Then there are curtains and blinds that offer the same privilege. Yet Rolls-Royce, being the gold standard in the luxury automotive landscape, takes things a step further with the new Privacy Suite on the new Phantom.
Unveiled at this week’s Chengdu Motor Show, the Privacy Suite boasts of an electrochromatic glass placed behind the front seats. At the press of a button, it can be turned opaque to prevent the driver and front seat occupant from seeing what’s going on back there. Curtains likewise deter any disual contact with the outside world.
As if this isn’t private enough, a frequency specific compound will stop any sound coming from the back seat to reach the front part of the Phantom. This means Jeeves will not be able to eavesdrop on those private conversation or sensitive matters of state.
Of course, front and rear occupants can still communicate via the intercom that allows the driver to inform his boss about vital matters. The boss, however, can choose to reject the call from up front. These are just some of the perks of being back there.
With the Rolls-Royce Phantom being the pinnacle of luxury, it was only a matter of time before such a feature as the Privacy Suite made its way into the cabin.
