The first month of 2020 wasn’t a kind one for the Philippines, especially to those living in Southern Luzon areas such as Batangas, Cavite, and Tagaytay. Case in point, the Taal Volcano, which spans all three regions and their neighboring areas, ran amok, erupting lava and plumes of ash. The ash fall stretched thousands of kilometers in the sky, covering its immediate surroundings, even including many parts of Metro Manila.
Due to the calamity, hundreds of families in Batangas were affected; most have lost their homes and livelihood. In this light, independent fuel brand Cleanfuel, wasted no time to extend its helping hands to the needy. Serving as its first corporate social responsibility program for 2020, Cleanfuel assembled a team of volunteer employees and made “Bangon Batangueňo” relief operation as its mission.
The volunteer team, which were divided into batches, was led by Cleanfuel President Atty. Bong Suntay, bottled water, clothes, medicines, food, relief packs, toiletries, and other essentials that displaced residents need in their day-to-day lives. In his words, Suntay shared, “We are very grateful to launch these operations to help our kababayans in time of need. This project wouldn’t be possible without the help of our employees who volunteered and joined without any hesitation to extend their hand and to support the victims of Taal.”
