As carmakers race towards an electric future, Volkswagen fields its own entries in the form of the I.D family of electric, autonomous mobility solutions. Fist came the I.D., seen at the Paris Motor Show in 2016. This was followed by the I.D. Buzz in Detroit earlier this year. Now comes the I.D. Crozz that breaks cover at the ongoing Auto Shanghai 2017.
The fully-electric crossover is yet another interpretation of the growing coupe-meets-SUV trend. It combines the two segments for those that want something sporty yet need the space, commanding view, and versatility. In other words, it somehow doesn’t know what it wants to be.
Despite this identity crisis, the I.D. Crozz utilizes a slew of smart technologies to help make the drive fun, efficient, and stress-free. The electric motor generates 300hp, giving the crossover a fun-to-drive character. The zero-emission motor, meanwhile, can go up to 500kms on a single charge using either a fast charger or a regular wall socket. The former can top up to 80% in as quick a time as 30 minutes.
Besides being green-minded, motorists will have a blast while behind the wheel. One can choose to use either Pilot or Autopilot modes by simply touching the VW logo for three seconds. There is also a light shade that can quickly change the cabin’s ambience by mere gesture control. And CleanAir ensures fresh breathable cabin air for all passengers.
The Volkswagen I.D. Crozz is slated for production by 2020.
