Volvo Set to Go Electric Real Soon

Volvo is one of the carmakers that is very vocal about coming up with autonomous, electrified vehicles in the next few years. In its Vision 2020, for instance, Volvo aims to reduce the number of people who will be killed or seriously injured in a Volvo by the year 2020. To meet its ambitious goals, the Swedish carmaker has announced that it will build its first fully electric model in China and sell it by 2019. The landmark announcement was made at the ongoing Auto Shanghai 2017.

The electric car, which will be based on the brand’s Compact Modular Architecture, will utilize components and technologies that are made in China. Volvo is confident of Chinese manufacturing techniques and know-how when it comes to various technologies that will go into the cutting-edge vehicle.

The electric car is likewise a nod to the Chinese government’s call to reduce air pollution in the country and around the world. Since it will likewise employ autonomous drive systems, the vehicle will also show the brand’s support for a safe and stress-free drive.

We can expect the new Volvo model to hit showrooms by 2019.
