The local automotive industry saw a fruitful sales performance for the past 6 months this year. This is according to the latest sales report by the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors (AVID).
AVID closed mid-year 2017 with a 6% increase in sales, amounting to 48,348 units. That’s around 2,878 units more vs. the 45,470 units sold during the same period last year. In addition, AVID posted a total of 25,031 units sold in Q2 2017 (April to June), a sizable improvement compared to the 23,317 units sold in Q1 (January to March) this year.
“AVID delivered 48,348 vehicles nationwide for the first semester of the year, improving 6% from the same period in 2016. To sustain this positive trend, AVID will continue on its quest to innovate its products and services in response to the ever-changing customer needs,” said AVID President Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo.
The report stated that local Passenger Cars (PC) sales went up by 13% in mid-2017. By the numbers, this achievement equates to a total of 18,773 units sold which is 2,129 more than the same period in 2016. Leading the charge in PC sales is Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI), the exclusive distributor of Hyundai vehicles in the Philippines and the company which Agudo handles. HARI’s mid-2017 PC sales increased by 64% or 12,039 units sold. On the other hand, demands for Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV) in the first half of 2017 likewise notched up at 3% or a total of 48,348 units sold. As regard, Ford Group Philippines, Inc. (FGPI) the company that brings Ford vehicles in the country tops the chart with a total of 16,209 units sold. Contributing to FGPI’s strong momentum is its June 2017 sales performance.
