As teams around the world gear up for the 2019 racing season, Porsche adds a bit of excitement to the mix by unveiling the 2019 911 GT3 R. Based on the road-going 911 GT3 RS, this one is the track-only version that knows no limits.

Take the 4.0-liter naturally-aspirated flat-6 motor as an example. It now puts out 542hp and has a wider rev range. Here, it is linked to a 7-speed sequential gearbox for lightning-quick shifts.

Apart from the engine, engineers worked on the brakes that are now larger and more powerful. Up front, six-piston calipers are attached to 390mm ventilated and grooved discs. Out back, four-piston calipers on 370mm discs. The wheels are likewise larger for added grip.

Weight savings comes in the form of polycarbonate windows and carbon fiber hood, doors, rear lid, wheel arches, and interior trim. Speaking of the cabin, the driver’s seat is bolted on six points for additional protection. The driver’s door, meanwhile, gets Kevlar aluminum and energy absorbing foam for added crash safety. And airconditioning is now put in place in the driver’s helmet and seat—useful on those scorching track days. Oh, and did we mention that fuel fillers are now on either side for quicker pit stops?

The Porsche 911 GT3 R is now available to order. Deliveries for next season begin in December.
