It seems like there are a lot of firsts for Jaguar lately, particularly at this year’s European Car of the Year awards, held at the Geneva International Motor Show. It is the first time that a Jaguar won the prestigious title, with an electric car, the I-PACE no less. This, incidentally, is another first.
With a total of 60 motoring journalists from 23 countries choosing from a distinguished roster of vehicles, the I-PACE bested the field, narrowly edging out the Alpine A110. Both the Jag and the Alpine garnered 250 votes each. The fully-electric crossover, however, was at the top of more voters’ lists, helping it bag the trophy.
Powered by two electric motors—one for each axle--, the Jaguar I-PACE’s motors produce a total output of 394hp and 694Nm of torque. This allows it to scoot from 0-100kph in a quick 4.5 seconds yet still returning a range of about 377kms on a single charge via a dedicated app.
Moreover, the European Car of the Year could just be the start of bigger things to come for the crossover this year as it is a contender for the World Car of the Year.
